OCCULT The word derives from the Latin occultus (hidden) and refers to 'knowledge of what is hidden' or even 'supernatural knowledge', in contrast to the 'knowledge of the visible' or science.
The modern meaning of the term is often translated incorrectly, meaning 'hidden knowledge', 'knowledge for the few' or 'knowledge that must remain hidden'. To occultists instead it is the study of a deeper spiritual reality that can not be understood using only the reason or material science.

Il Libro dei morti era un papiro sul quale gli antichi egizi scrivevano in geroglifico formule magico-religiose che dovevano servire al defunto nel suo viaggio nell'aldilà, per consentirgli di "vivere" ancora nel mondo ultraterreno.
Si tratta, generalmente, di formule e di racconti incentrati sul viaggio notturno del Dio sole (nelle sue diverse manifestazioni) e della sua lotta con le forze del male (tra cui il serpente APOPHIS) che tentano, nottetempo, di fermarlo per non farlo risorgere al mattino.
In particolare il testo doveva servire a preparare la testimonianza sulla sua condotta in vita, che il defunto doveva fornire davanti al giudizio di Osiride.
Il papiro era poi posto nella tomba, o a volte direttamente nel sarcofago, assieme ai tesori e alle suppellettili ritenute necessarie per l'anima in viaggio.
Inizialmente i testi venivano tracciati sulle pareti della camera sepolcrale.
Nel Medio regno si usò dipingere i geroglifici sul sarcofago, e solo a partire dalla XVIII dinastia si impiegarono i papiri.
In questo modo sono giunti agli egittologi innumerevoli testimonianze sulle pratiche di mummificazione e sul culto dei morti in general of many dynasties.
